Over the weekend Newegg posted listings for two versions of Windows 10 that they were offering for pre-order.
The Windows 10 versions they listed included Windows 10 Home OEM and Windows 10 Professional OEM and their prices $109.99 and $149.99 respectively.
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and these types of licenses of Windows are usually purchased by individuals or companies who build computers for resell.
Since the equipment they purchased did not come with a Windows license these OEM version are valid for those installs and the subsequent resale of the system to a customer.
While we do not know the accuracy of those listings, as they are unconfirmed by Microsoft, we do now have the official prices for the retail versions of Windows 10 Home and Professional.
The good news is that the prices for Windows 10 match those of its predecessor Windows 8.1 - so no price hikes.
You will find Windows 10 Home available for $119 and Windows 10 Professional for $199.
Remember the Pro Pack that was offered to upgrade Windows 8/8.1 Home to Professional?
Well that upgrade option will remain available with Windows 10 and the Pro Pack will cost $99.
Of course, if you are on Windows 7 or 8.1 Microsoft is giving you an upgrade to the Windows 10 version of your OS for free until 29 July 2016. Any machine you currently have with those OS's should be eligible for that beginning on 29 July 2015.
