We know that not every family has a live in tech support geek to help them sort out computer related challenges, upgrades, etc. so it is handy when there are other options available.
Microsoft Stores offer in store tech support but they are not easily accessible to a large portion of the country.
Best Buy on the other hand, which has over 600 Microsoft Stores inside of their stores, is much more accessible across the US and they have just released information about services that are offering the public to help with the transition to Windows 10.
The first thing are Windows 10 open houses every Saturday in August (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th) that will be held at every Best Buy store from 11 AM to 1 PM (stores local time). These events will focus on teaching attendees about Windows 10 and what it provides as a new operating system.
They are also offering a special in store offer that if you bring in your eligible Windows 7 or 8.1 device then the best Buy Geek Squad will install your Windows 10 upgrade for $29.99. The install is free if you buy a year of Office 365 Personal, add Geek Squad Protection or Tech Support when you purchase a new device.
Can't make it to their open house event? Then you can get a one on one 30 minute tutorial with a Geek Squad tech in store for $29.99. If it is not possible to even make it into a store at anytime then they are also offering a 30 minute chat tutorial session with an online agent for $19.99.
If you would prefer they come to you at home then you can get one hour worth of training with a Geek Squad Agent for $129.99.
Be aware that the online chat and home visit do not include upgrading your system to Windows 10 or any of these services:
- Training on virus or spyware removal.
- PC setup and installation.
- Troubleshooting problems with a computer.
- Training on any other topics other than Windows 10.
I discussed this with Rod and he said without hesitation that he would pay $30 for his parents to head in store to get their system upgraded. it really is a good value to head in and get your system upgraded for those who need that assistance.
I am not sure the home visit is worthwhile but 30 mins on chat or in person is enough time to expose someone to the features of Windows 10 and get them moving forward.
By the way, expect the upsell for additional services when you take on any of these offerings because it is just part of the job as they say.
