JSI Tip 3114. Your Terminal Services client cannot connect to a Windows 2000 Server running 128-bit encryption?
December 4, 2000
If the Terminal Services computer is running 128-bit encryption and has its' RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) is set to High, you may be unable to connect. The event log may contain Event ID 50, The RDP protocol component "DATA ENCRYPTION" detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
This will occur if the Terminal Services Client was installed from the client folder before the 128-bit encryption pack was installed on the Terminal Services computer.
To workaround this issue, perform one of the following:
- Set the RDP encryption level to Medium or Low.
- Uninstall the Terminal Services Client and reinstall it from the Windows 2000 Terminal Services computer that is running with 128-bit encryption.
