Windows 10 New Keyboard Options Available After Cumulative Update 3

On Friday, August 14, 2015, Microsoft released its 3rd Cumulative Update for Windows 10 in less than two weeks. We're still digging out after installing this new update and finding all sorts of new things. In addition to bug fixes, Microsoft is steadily building new features and customization options into the operating system version.

After installing this latest update (and I recommend that you do), you may have noticed a brand new icon show up out of thin air in the Windows 10 System Tray. A new 'keyboard' icon is now displayed.

Obviously, this new icon is meant to offer onscreen keyboarding options for those with touchscreens, but there's also a whole slew of customization options behind it, including adding a new keyboard layout that I talked about just yesterday in How To: Improve Windows 10's Onscreen Keyboard for Desktop Apps.

The new settings can be found by going to All Settings > Devices > Typing and includes new options for…

  • Show text suggestions as I type

  • Add a space after I choose a test suggestion

  • Add a period after I double-tap the Spacebar

  • Play key sounds as I type

  • Capitalize the first letter of each sentence

  • Use all uppercase letters when I double-tap Shift

  • Add the standard keyboard layout as a touch keyboard option

  • Automatically show the touch keyboard in windowed apps when there's no keyboard attached to your device

We'll be digging further into these settings in additional Supersite How To's, but wanted to give you an alert their existence so you can start playing on your own.
