August firmware updates released for Surface Pro 2 and 3
This update improves the overall graphics performance of Windows 10 on these devices.
Microsoft's own hardware line has had its share of challenges with the Windows 10 upgrade during both the pre-release Windows Insider program and after the release of the updated OS on 29 July 2015.
In order to improve the overall performance of its new operating system on two of its Surface models, Microsoft has released an August firmware update for the Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3.
The update will show up in your devices installed update history and be listed as Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics Family and it will bump the HD Graphics driver to version 10.18.15.4256.
Microsoft rolls these drivers out via Windows Update in a manner that staggers the availability so if you check for this and it does not show up just try again later and it should eventually be available.
You can track firmware updates for all the Surface devices at the following Surface support pages:
By the way, the lack of updates for a particular Surface device does not necessarily mean it has been abandoned. It just means it is likely working just fine and there really is no reason to mess with something that is not broken. However, in the case of Surface RT and Surface 2, the only expectation of an update will be this fall when Windows RT picks up a couple of cosmetic Windows 10 related features.
