Solve errors related to Service Manager portal installation

Q. I'm installing the Service Manager 2012 R2 Self-Service Portal but I get an error, how can I check the problem?

A. The new Service Manager portal that is part of UR8 writes a setup log file which will include details of any errors. The log files will be found in the local temp area of the person running the setup, for example C:Usersadministrator.SAVILLTECHAppDataLocalTempSCSMPatcherSetupWizard01.log. Search that file for "Return value 3" and that will give you the detail of the problem. In my case I was missing .NET Framework 3.51 even though its not listed as a pre-requisite!
