What to Expect at MMS 2011 This Week

TheMicrosoft Management Summit (MMS) 2011 is being held in Las Vegas this week, and Microsoft is expected to use the event to put the spotlight on some of the upgrades (and new additions) to its Microsoft System Center family of products. According to a post by Kerry Meyler over at Network World, MMS 2011 sold out last week, perhaps indicating that IT decision makers are finally looking past the economic doldrums and are ready to start considering new Microsoft System Center deployments with renewed interest.

Over at ZDNet, Mary Jo Foley has blogged a bit about how Microsoft is expected to take the wraps off codename "Concero", which is expected to be a new tool in the System Center family that deals with management of private and "hybrid" clouds.

So what else will be happening at MMS? There will likely be additional updated product news later this week, and the updated version of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (v.Next) will probably be explained in a bit more detail. IT administrators are already challenged with how to manage physical infrastructure and virtual infrastructure, but throwing on private and public cloud resources on top of that makes for an IT management headache. I'm guessing Microsoft will use MMS2011 to unveil more concrete steps to address those challenges.
