Twitter App for Windows Phone 8 Updated to Version 3.0

Twitter gets more mature as it hits the big 3.0

The Twitter app for Windows Phone received a major update today, bumping the version number to 3.0 and adding a ton of new features, including support for a dark theme, lock screen integration, Twitter suggestions, and better search and discovery. If you're using Twitter on Windows Phone 8, you'll want to upgrade immediately.

You can read more about the previous version in my post Windows Phone 8 App Pick: Twitter 2.0.

This time around, Twitter for Windows Phone 8 picks up the following new features:

New dark theme. Before the 2.0 version, the Twitter app actually sported both light and dark themes. But the dark theme makes a comeback in version 3.0. I guess I kind of prefer the default light theme, but I like that it's an option.

Follow suggestions. If you register for Twitter during the app setup process, it will make suggestions for people to follow on the service.

Tweet notifications. The app can now notify you when your favorite Twitter accounts issue a tweet.

Keyword search pinning. You can now pin keyword searches to your home screen and access them more quickly whenever you wish.

Additional language support. Twitter for Windows Phone 8 now supports 13 additional languages.

New lock screen experience. While Twitter 2.0 offered integration with the Windows Phone 8 lock screen, version 3.0 features a new lock screen experience that highlights interesting tweets. Frankly, I don't think this is very attractive.

You can download Twitter 3.0 for Windows Phone 8 from the Windows Phone Store.
