Possible Activity Bug in Latest Microsoft Band Update

Microsoft delivered two updates for the Microsoft Band yesterday. For me, the first update, which included a firmware refresh, came early in the morning. And, then yesterday afternoon another update delivered, updating only the Microsoft Health app.

Between the two updates, I took my daily run. Right between the 20 minute to 25 minute mark, the band starting attempting to sync with my phone. It blanked the screen and paused my running activity. I didn't realize it had done this until I had lost about .15 miles of tracking. The running activity was still live, just paused. I opened up the Run tile and resumed my activity. It was a little frustrating to lose a bit of my daily run record, but I made up ground. It had never done this before, so I thought it had to be a fluke.

Today, between the 20 minute to 25 minute mark it happened again. This time I didn't notice until I had lost about a quarter mile of tracking. I had been monitoring my mileage and knew that another mile was coming up, but the band never vibrated to let me know. I looked down and the clock face was showing. I dropped into the Run tile and sure enough, same issue as the day before. To me, a quarter mile is more significant. I resumed the activity and decided to run another 25 minutes to see if it might happen again. It didn't. The bug seems to only affect the first 25 minutes of activity.

Additionally, since I was trying to confirm the bug, I took a 25 minute treadmill run with the GPS off. The issue didn't surface, which makes me think that this might also affect Bike activity, since it seems to be GPS-related.

This is purely a heads-up and also to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I'm off to check with Microsoft Band support to see if they are aware. I'll stop back by to confirm if they do.

If it does turn out that the recent update introduced this bug, its bad timing considering that the Microsoft Band just released to the UK market and the Apple Watch is hot on its heels.
