As part of “battery-gate,” I’ve given pretty simple instructions on how to determine the manufacturer of the battery in your Surface Pro 3 tablet. Those very succinct instructions said to use the powercfg /batteryreport command at an elevated command prompt.

But, there’s been enough activity (enormous activity, actually) around the battery-gate issue that it’s probably best to provide more detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to locate the battery manufacturer of your Surface Pro 3.
Here’s how to do it:
- Right-click on the Windows 10 Start button and choose “Command Prompt (Admin)”
- In the command prompt window type: powercfg /batteryreport and hit Enter.
- The Powercfg command saves the battery life report to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\battery-report.html.
- Open this html file in your web browser (Edge, Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.) and locate the manufacturer line.
- If the manufacturer says “SIMPLO” you are affected by the issue.
Incidentally, this method works for any Surface tablet version.
